Who We Are

The ideas behind Mind the Redd

BEN HELGESON

Founder / Elementary Teacher / Dad

Growing up amid the open fields, farm lot hardwoods, and lake country of rural Minnesota, Ben developed a reverence for fish, wildlife, and wild places. A licensed elementary educator and fly fishing guide, Ben teaches school in Denver, Colorado and guides guests along Front Range waters for 5280 Angler.

Ben felt a need to change the tone and scope of the message around redds – both on the water and online. With a belief that people are inherently good and that no angler is born with an innate awareness for redds, he set out to elevate the discourse and spread a message of wild fish conservation. His intention for Mindtheredd, was to give anglers a way to share the benefit of the doubt, while simultaneously offering a reminder and reason to take care of what we love the most. With hope that his son and all our kids will have wild fish to chase, Mindtheredd occurred to the heart of a teacher. He hopes it resonates with yours.
